Maria Alegria Rodriguez
Maria has defended basic human rights of low-income and migrant peoples for 30 years. She is a graduate of Georgetown University, where Maria started her work on issues of race and poverty by becoming active in the anti-apartheid and Central America solidarity efforts. She has been instrumental in the co-founding and establishment of various award-winning institutions including a housing cooperative, a healthcare clinic, a civic engagement entity and a statewide membership social movement organization, the Florida Immigrant Coalition which she now heads. To any new venture she brings mission-driven, strategic and innovative thinking as well as strong management and facilitation skills. She has mentored many young leaders, but her greatest accomplishment is being Dante’s mom.
